Sydney Sweeney expressed pride in her Christy Martin biopic Christy despite its weak theatrical debut, earning just $1.3 million from 2,011 theaters and missing the top 10 box office rankings. The actress, who also produced the David Michôd-directed film, posted on Instagram Monday defending the project. “I am so deeply proud of this movie,” Sweeney wrote, adding the film “stands for survival, courage and hope” and helped “raise awareness for so many affected by domestic violence.” She concluded, “we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact.” The biographical drama features Sweeney as boxer Christy Martin, who helped legitimize women’s boxing, alongside Ben Foster as her abusive trainer-husband. Sweeney underwent months of training and gained 30 pounds for the role. (Story URL)
