Hailee Steinfeld is bringing a familiar 1980s hit to a new generation with her cover of The Cars’ “Magic,” recorded for Disney’s upcoming animated film Hexed.
Released on October 23, 2026, the new recording offers a contemporary take on the 1984 song originally written by Ric Ocasek. The track keeps the recognizable energy of the original while adding Steinfeld’s pop vocals.
Steinfeld also stars in Hexed, voicing Billie Doe, a teenage girl who discovers she has magical abilities. Her discovery leads her into a mysterious world filled with witches and unexpected adventures.
The animated film features a voice cast that includes Rashida Jones, Jodie Foster, Walton Goggins, Tracey Ullman, and Stephen Fry.
The recording marks another connection between Steinfeld’s music and acting careers. She previously contributed the song “Dangerous” to the 2025 film Sinners.
The Hexed soundtrack is scheduled for release on November 20, 2026, five days before the movie arrives in theaters on November 25.
